About NIOS

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is one of the three National Boards of Secondary Education with The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination(CISCE). It offers school education through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

NIOS is established by  MHRD, Govt. of India and follows the National Curriculum Framework brought out by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

The Open Schooling courses of study of NIOS have the same standard and equivalence of the courses of study of other National / State level Boards of School Education.

The NIOS courses and programmes are functional and also set pathway for further studies. Successful alumni of NIOS are pursuing higher studies in institutions ofinternational and national repute like IITs, NITs, AIIMS, and many other reputed institutions of higher learning and in professional institutions and universities abroad.

Also, NIOS completed students can seek admission in all India as well as state Medical, Engineering and other various competitive exams like IIT-JEE, NEET – UG, CA – CPT, CS, ICWA. They can also seek the government jobs whether central / state government.

The NIOS provides flexibility with respect to Choice of Subject: Learner can choose subjects of his/her choice from the given list keeping in view the passing criteria. Also, The Public Examinations are held twice in a year. Nine examination chances are offered to a learner in five years. A learner can take any examination during this period as and when he/she is well prepared and can avail the facility of credit accumulation.
